Michael Landry

Michael Landry holds the position of Vice President, Corporate Development at Manulife Financial, is an officer of the Company and is based at its head office in Toronto. His responsibilities include policy development and issues management, as well as working with and representing the Company’s interests to governments, industry associations, multilateral organizations and others. Mr. Landry leads Manulife’s participation in the reform of Canada’s governing legislation and regulatory regime and other policy and trade issues affecting the financial services sector and the Company domestically and internationally.

Mr. Landry provides ongoing support to Manulife’s international operations, which represent some 75% of the Company’s business and earnings. He works closely with Manulife’s U.S. operations on a wide variety of issues and is active on Asian business development initiatives, including the Company’s entries to China, Japan and Vietnam.

He is also Assistant Corporate Secretary to the Board of Directors and has played a leading role in developing Manulife’s recognized corporate governance policies and practices.

Mr. Landry is active in several external organizations. He is a member of the Financial Leaders Working Group and a founding member of the Canadian Services Coalition, both of which work to reduce barriers to trade in services.

He sits on the Board of Directors of the Canada China Business Council and its Executive Committee. He is also a member of a number of committees of the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA), and on the Board of Directors of the Toronto Financial Services Alliance (TFSA). He is on the American Council of Life Insurance (ACLI) Committee on International Relations. Prior to joining Manulife Financial, Mr. Landry held senior positions in the Ontario government, including Executive Assistant to the Minister of Finance, Minister of Health and Minister of Industry. Mr. Landry is an honours graduate of Glendon College at York University in Toronto.
