THE HEALTHCARE SECTOR IN INDIA

The needs of India’s healthcare sector are urgent, and the country has begun extensive work to equip itself with a modern healthcare system that is accessible to its entire population of 1.2 billion people. Colossal investments are therefore required in the sector, generating interesting business opportunities for foreign companies.

The Indian government, with the support of the WHO and new G8 initiatives, along with several NGOs and the Indian private sector are therefore mobilizing, using new technology and innovative approaches to create one of the world’s largest healthcare networks.

It is estimated that by 2025, India will need:

    * 700,000 new doctors
    * 1.6 million new nurses
    * 1.7 million additional beds
    * Investments in infrastructures and equipment of over $78 billion US.

This market will also be conducive to various other applications, such as public health, preventive medicine, information, primary care telemedicine, simulation training, and “mobile health” approaches making use of various mass-market technological platforms.
